About Mariposa Wine Company

Founded in 2003, the Mariposa Wine Company portfolio of wines embraces the incredible diversity of California’s viticultural areas and grapes flavors. CrU, Carmichael and Yosemite View each features only the varietals that thrive in their respective regions. No one brand tries to be all things to all people.

Founder Richard Spencer has had a keen interest in fine wines for many years, a pastime cultivated with long-time family friend Michael Conway. For these two entrepreneurs the dream of owning a winery is now a welcome reality.

Winemaking and daily operations are overseen by Michael Leven, a fifteen-year veteran with experience at some of Washington and California’s top houses. Having earned a second degree in Enology, Leven first worked as winemaker for dry white wines at Glen Ellen and then moved to sister company Beaulieu Vineyard where he skillfully served as winemaker for the Coastal brand. Most recently he oversaw winemaking for Kendall-Jackson’s Camelot brand, helping orchestrate 75-100% annual growth for five straight years.
