Tasting Notes
CHERRIES! Big black cherry and currant aromas positively jump out of the glass, being so pervasive as to almost subdue the oak, as well as the dried herb quality that defines ripe and varietal Cabernet. Sweet red cherries, sweet red cherries, and sweet red cherries are the three flavors that dominate the palate, with sweet black cherry playing a supporting role. This wine is very bold and flavorful, with chewy, chalky, but refined tannins in the finish. Mostly from Gardner Vineyard in Mariposa.
Fermentation Data
The Cabernet grapes for this wine came from two locations in the Sierra Foothills. The Renaissance Vineyard is located in the very northern reaches of the appellation, in Yuba County. It is an older planting, the hillsides having been terraced by hand by a communal group begun there in the 1970’s. The balance of the fruit came from another older planting: E.J. and Shirley Miller’s Temperance Creek Vineyard in the Hunter’s Valley of Mariposa County. The Renaissance Cab gives the blend its fruitiness and body, while the Miller’s gives it its backbone. The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Yosemite View Winery
The Yosemite View Winery was founded in the southern Sierra Foothills, just 20 miles from the world-famous national park, after which it is named. Wines from this mountain growing region have a big, forward style and very distinct personalities; much like the areas' Gold Rush pioneers. Our winemaker blends Yosemite View wines so they retain this inherent, bold character, but are also balanced and delicious for your near-term enjoyment.
Yosemite View produces wine only from grape varietals that grow well in this unique and historic area. Offerings include this ageworthy Cabernet Sauvignon, a fruity and crisp Sauvignon Blanc, a hearty Merlot, a firm, structured Syrah, and finally, a big, full-throttle Zinfandel, for which the appellation is best known.
